About Granite Academy
Granite Academy was established in 1989 through an association with Bay State Community Services. Originally located within a group home operated by Bay State Community Services, Granite Academy relocated to a beautiful new facility in Braintree in the winter of 2002.
Group home residents with a formal assignment to the Department of Mental Health remain Granite Academy's primary source of referrals. Additionally, our relocation, and resulting capacity increase, has enabled us to continue providing educational and clinical services to students after they leave their group home, while they prepare to return to public school.
The Department of Education was an important partner in the relocation and expansion of our services. Full approval status was granted by the Department in 2002. Our curriculum, which is approved by the Braintree School Committee, provides instruction supported by family centered therapy, expressive arts and vocational preparation. A point of pride for the Granite Academy community is Granite Cafe which provides all students with a rich vocational and social experience and affords the opportunity for significant family involvement.
A strong technology base supports academic instruction and expressive arts. Currently Granite Academy utilizes on-line instructional and tutoring resources as a core component of the Math curriculum.
Granite Academy is fortunate to have the volunteer and financial support of South Shore Cooperative Bank
